The new year starts with a big ”HELLO!!!” as our pet-designer-robot-toy PAPP debugs her first word!
Mother, our prototype PAPP, is now close to trying her first steps. Her four servoes; feet, eyes and arm are connected to and controlled by the microcontroller. During this week we will hook her up to our monster oscilloscope and start the work on her sensors!

The first lasercut acrylic parts for PAPP arrived from Supermodeller this week! The top picture shows the taped-together-test-assembly. The bottom picture shows a closeup of the front.
The laser took away 0,15mm and we have adjusted the 3D-drawing to compensate for the loss of material. The final prototype (if everything fits - knock on wood) will be delivered by the end of next week, rrrrrr..... The launch is getting nearer - watch out for more news in the near future!
PNA4601M
A new Rhino download is ready, the bipolar infrared photodetection IC from Panasonic. This IC is the standard ir-sensor on the Parallax robots.

The first production run of the PAPP designertoy is on! The parts have been sent over to Supermodeller for lasercutting. Hopefully we will have the first parts here in Tordal by the end of the week.
PAPP ExtraBlack
Our logo has officially changed! The old one was based on two figures we made for our first webpage back in 1999 - www.boredturtle.com. We took the exact proportions of the bodies from these two figures and made the TordalType font for our logo. In a freak accident the resulting font was almost identical to the font and logo designed by Ariane Spanier for the Torpedo bookstore in Oslo, hence the need for a change...
Our new logo comes from the work with the PAPP logo. The PAPP ExtraBlack font is a fixedwidth font. The designer toy PAPP has a perfect cube shape and we wanted the font to reflect the complete squarishness of it all. Only the most important letters and symbols are included in this font.

We are moving forward with the design of PAPP and it looks as if we will be ready too launch our first superlimitededition designertoys this fall. The 3D-design is almost finished and the materials lie ready for lasercutting.
We designed a new font for PAPP for the logo (above), we are very pleased with the logo and have allready designed three skate decks with the logo and some PAPP Mac OS X icons. The decks and icons will be made available on the evening of our launch. Watch out for more news in the near future!

A perfect day
